Trinamool leader Suvendu Adhikari told border security that Bangladeshis are positioned on the other side, ready to cross when the BSF’s view is blocked.

Suvendu Adhikari, a senior Trinamool Congress figure, addressed border security personnel stationed along the West Bengal‑Bangladesh frontier, stating that he had observed no activity on the Bangladeshi side through binoculars, but suspected that individuals were lying in wait to exploit any lapse in surveillance. He warned that the infiltrators are likely to move across the border the moment the Border Security Force (BSF) loses sight of the area.

The leader’s remarks come amid heightened concerns over illegal crossings and smuggling along the 1,600‑kilometre stretch that separates the two countries. Authorities have repeatedly highlighted the challenge of monitoring remote and densely vegetated sections where visibility is limited.

Adhikari urged the BSF to maintain constant vigilance and to coordinate closely with local law‑enforcement agencies to prevent any unauthorized entry. He emphasized that any breach could have security and law‑and‑order repercussions for the state.

While the statement did not disclose specific intelligence or numbers, it underscores the ongoing tension between border management and cross‑border movements that have long plagued the region.
