The Supreme Court has condemned Yatharth Hospital for failing to comply with a contempt notice, after a 2018 ruling mandated free treatment for EWS patients in hospitals that received land at concessional rates.

The Supreme Court today slammed Yatharth Hospital for not responding to a contempt notice issued under its 2018 judgment. The landmark ruling requires hospitals that received land at concessional rates to provide free treatment to Extremely Poor (EWS) patients.

In a hearing on a related plea, the court reiterated that non‑compliance with the 2018 directive constitutes contempt of court. Yatharth Hospital’s failure to address the notice has drawn sharp criticism from the apex court.

The court’s remarks underscore the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring that hospitals honour their social obligations and that EWS patients receive the care they are entitled to under the law.
