Sunil Kothari, former BJP activist, becomes new mayor of Jaipur

Sunil Kothari, who spent over three decades with the BJP after a Sangh background, has been sworn in as Jaipur’s mayor, taking charge of the city’s urban administration.
Sunil Kothari was officially sworn in as the mayor of Jaipur on Wednesday, succeeding the interim administration that oversaw the city’s municipal affairs. The oath ceremony was held at the Jaipur Municipal Corporation office, with senior officials and local representatives in attendance.
Kothari’s political journey began in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, after which he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and remained active for more than thirty years. He rose through the party ranks, holding various organizational posts and participating in the “Mhara Jaipur, Pyara Jaipur” movement that called for the integration and development of the historic city.
As mayor, Kothari faces the task of improving urban services, addressing traffic congestion, and upgrading civic infrastructure. He has pledged to focus on waste management, water supply, and heritage conservation, aiming to balance rapid growth with the preservation of Jaipur’s cultural identity.
