The Subarnarekha River in Odisha is under alert as authorities warn of a third successive flood risk following heavy monsoon rains.
The Subarnarekha River, which flows through several districts of Odisha, has been placed under a flood warning for the third time this monsoon season. After two successive inundations earlier this year, the river’s water level has risen again due to persistent heavy rainfall across the basin.
State disaster officials have issued an advisory urging residents in low‑lying areas to remain vigilant and to follow any evacuation orders. Relief camps are being readied in affected blocks, and additional sandbags are being dispatched to vulnerable villages.
District administrations in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Mayurbhanj have reported rising water in riverbanks and have begun pre‑emptive measures such as reinforcing embankments and clearing drainage channels. The authorities have also warned of possible disruption to road transport and power supply in the flood‑prone zones.
Meteorological departments will continue to monitor the river’s flow and issue updates every six hours. Residents are advised to stay informed through official channels and to avoid unnecessary travel near the riverbanks until the situation stabilises.
