Tensions over student union elections have led to protests on several college campuses across Odisha, with demonstrations reported in multiple institutions.
Earlier this week, disagreements over the conduct of student union elections sparked demonstrations on a number of college campuses throughout Odisha. Students gathered at entrances and common areas, chanting slogans and demanding a transparent voting process.
College administrations reported that some protests turned into sit‑ins, temporarily halting regular classes and examinations. Security personnel and local police were deployed to maintain order, but no major clashes were reported.
Authorities have urged calm and announced that the scheduled elections may be postponed pending a review of the grievances. Several institutions have suspended academic activities for the day to ensure safety.
Officials from the state education department said they are monitoring the situation closely and will take steps to ensure that future student elections are conducted peacefully and fairly.
