Odisha's Special Task Force has launched a probe to determine how five orangutan cubs reached Balasore, raising serious questions about illegal wildlife movement.

Odisha's Special Task Force (STF) has initiated an investigation into the unusual discovery of five orangutan cubs in Balasore district. The presence of these endangered primates, native to the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra, in an Indian state has raised serious concerns among wildlife authorities.

Officials are working to trace the route through which the cubs were transported and to identify the individuals or networks involved. The STF is examining possible links to illegal wildlife trafficking, given that orangutans are not native to India and their movement is strictly regulated under international conservation laws.

The case has drawn attention to the growing challenge of curbing the illegal exotic animal trade in the region. Authorities have intensified efforts to gather evidence and ensure that those responsible for bringing the cubs to Odisha are brought to light.
