The State Disaster Management Authority (SSB) has carried out rescue operations in two affected areas of West Sikkim after heavy rains triggered landslides, saving several residents.
Heavy rains in the hills of West Sikkim triggered landslides that buried homes in two villages. The State Disaster Management Authority (SSB) mobilised rescue teams and helicopters to reach the affected areas.
Rescue workers reached the sites within hours, clearing debris and evacuating trapped residents to safer locations. Several families were rescued from their homes, and the teams are continuing to monitor the stability of the slopes.
Local authorities have urged residents to stay away from the most vulnerable slopes while the SSB assesses the risk of further landslides. No fatalities have been reported so far, but the operation remains ongoing as the region continues to receive rainfall.
