Sonu Nigam apologises in video for Pahalgam comment, Kannada group calls off protest

Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam issued a video apology on social media after his earlier comment about the Kashmir town of Pahalgam drew criticism. In the recorded message, Nigam said his words were unintentionally insensitive and expressed regret for any hurt caused. He also affirmed his respect for the cultural sentiments of all Indian regions.

The apology came as a pro‑Kannada group, which had staged a sit‑in to protest the singer's remark, announced the suspension of its demonstration. The organization said the video addressed its concerns and that it would now focus on broader cultural harmony.

Observers noted that the swift response helped defuse a potentially volatile situation, highlighting the impact of direct communication in the age of social media. No further legal or official actions have been reported following the closure of the protest.
