SK Group chairman highlighted that the growing shortage of AI chips could evolve into a geopolitical issue, urging stakeholders to address supply chain vulnerabilities.

SK Group chairman, S. K. Rao, warned on Tuesday that the escalating shortage of artificial‑intelligence chips could become a geopolitical flashpoint if not addressed promptly. He said the global supply chain for AI processors is fragile and that any disruption could affect multiple sectors, from defense to consumer electronics.

The shortage has already strained manufacturers in the United States, Europe and Asia, forcing companies to delay product launches and seek alternative suppliers. Rao emphasized that the issue is not just commercial but also strategic, as nations increasingly rely on AI for national security and economic competitiveness.

He called on governments, industry bodies and semiconductor firms to collaborate on securing a resilient supply chain. Rao added that early investment in domestic chip production and diversification of sourcing could mitigate future risks.

The chairman’s remarks come amid growing concerns over technology dependencies and the need for robust policies to safeguard critical infrastructure.
