Six states sign MoU to kick off Kishau dam project for water security

Representatives from six states gathered to sign a memorandum of understanding that will launch the Kishau dam project, a large‑scale water‑storage scheme on the Sutlej River. The agreement, signed in New Delhi, underscores a collaborative effort to improve water availability for irrigation, drinking and power generation. The Kishau dam, planned in Himachal Pradesh, is expected to create a reservoir capable of storing billions of cubic metres of water, thereby reducing seasonal water scarcity in the participating states. Officials said the MoU will pave the way for detailed project reports, financing arrangements and a coordinated construction schedule.
