Representatives of six Indian states signed a memorandum of understanding to initiate the Kishau dam project, aimed at enhancing water security across the region.

Representatives from six states gathered to sign a memorandum of understanding that will launch the Kishau dam project, a large‑scale water‑storage scheme on the Sutlej River. The agreement, signed in New Delhi, underscores a collaborative effort to improve water availability for irrigation, drinking and power generation. The Kishau dam, planned in Himachal Pradesh, is expected to create a reservoir capable of storing billions of cubic metres of water, thereby reducing seasonal water scarcity in the participating states. Officials said the MoU will pave the way for detailed project reports, financing arrangements and a coordinated construction schedule. The initiative is seen as a strategic move to bolster regional water security and support agricultural and energy needs.
