The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts for intense rainfall and strong winds across several states as Cyclone Murasu continues its trajectory.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a high‑severity alert for heavy rain and stormy conditions as Cyclone Murasu advances over the Bay of Bengal. Meteorologists say the system is expected to retain its intensity for the next 48 hours, bringing widespread precipitation and gusty winds to the region.
IMD’s warning covers a swath of coastal states along the eastern seaboard, urging residents to prepare for sudden downpours, flooding and possible disruptions to transport services. Local authorities have been instructed to activate emergency response teams, clear drainage channels and suspend vulnerable outdoor activities.
The department also cautioned that the cyclone’s outer bands could affect inland districts, leading to flash floods and landslides in hilly terrain. Residents are advised to stay updated through official bulletins, secure loose objects, and avoid travel in affected zones until conditions improve.
Earlier this week, Cyclone Murasu caused moderate damage in parts of the oceanic region, prompting pre‑emptive evacuations in low‑lying villages. The current advisory aims to mitigate further loss of life and property as the storm moves inland.
