Six dead as building collapses in South Delhi's Satya Niketan, CCTV shows moment of fall

A multi‑storey residential building in the Satya Niketan neighbourhood of South Delhi gave way early on Wednesday, leaving six people dead and a number of college students buried under the rubble. Rescue teams from the Delhi Fire Service and the National Disaster Response Force arrived within minutes and began clearing debris while searching for survivors.

CCTV footage captured by a nearby shop has now been released by authorities, showing the structure collapsing in a matter of seconds after a visible crack appeared on its façade. The video corroborates eyewitness accounts that a loud thud preceded the fall, and it is being examined for clues about structural failures.

Delhi Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the building’s owner, identified as Harom, and other parties allegedly responsible for illegal construction and neglect of safety norms. The FIR cites violations of the Delhi Building Bye‑laws and points to possible unauthorized alterations that may have weakened the edifice.

The rescue operation continues, with officials saying that several students remain trapped and that efforts are focused on stabilising the site to prevent further collapse. Families have been urged to cooperate with investigators as the probe into the cause of the disaster proceeds.
