Authorities in Sikkim have begun a comprehensive inspection of all roads to assess damage caused by the recent monsoon.
The Government of Sikkim has ordered a systematic survey of the state's road network to evaluate the impact of this year's monsoon rains. Teams from the Public Works Department, along with local engineers, are moving across districts to inspect highways, rural roads, and bridges for waterlogging, landslides, and structural wear.
The inspection drive is intended to prioritize repair work, ensure safe travel for commuters, and prevent further disruptions during the remaining monsoon period. Officials will compile findings into a damage report that will guide the allocation of funds and resources for immediate remedial actions.
While the monsoon has brought heavy rainfall to the Himalayan region, there have been isolated reports of road blockages and minor landslides. The ongoing assessments aim to verify the extent of such incidents and to coordinate timely clearance and reinforcement measures.
