The state government of Sikkim has been handed a detailed report outlining strategies to mitigate glacial hazards in the region.

Sikkim's state administration was recently presented with a comprehensive report on glacial hazard mitigation. The document, compiled by a team of experts, evaluates the stability of the state's numerous glacial lakes and assesses the risk of sudden outburst floods.

Key recommendations include the establishment of continuous lake monitoring systems, the deployment of early‑warning mechanisms in vulnerable valleys, and the formulation of community‑level evacuation plans. The report also advises strengthening infrastructure such as bridges and roads that are prone to damage from flood surges.

Officials said the findings will be reviewed by the state disaster management authority and integrated into Sikkim's broader climate‑resilience strategy. Given the Himalayan state's exposure to rapid glacial melt, the study is expected to guide policy decisions aimed at safeguarding lives and livelihoods.

The government has pledged to allocate resources for implementing the suggested measures and to coordinate with central agencies for technical support.
