Sikkim's chief minister highlighted that promoting adventure sports in the state's remote villages could attract international attention and boost tourism.
Gangtok, Oct 11 (India Today NE) – The chief minister of Sikkim emphasized that the state's far‑flung villages have the potential to achieve global recognition by developing adventure‑sport offerings. He pointed out that the region's rugged terrain and natural beauty are well suited for activities such as trekking, mountain biking and river rafting, which could draw foreign tourists and athletes.
The minister noted that a focused strategy to build infrastructure, train local guides and market these destinations internationally would create livelihood opportunities for residents while preserving the environment. He urged state agencies and private investors to collaborate on projects that meet international safety standards.
By positioning Sikkim's remote hamlets as adventure hubs, the government aims to diversify the state's tourism portfolio beyond conventional sightseeing, thereby enhancing its economic resilience.
The statement comes as part of a broader push to leverage the state's unique geography for sustainable development, with plans to integrate adventure sports into existing tourism promotion campaigns.
Stakeholders are expected to submit proposals for adventure‑sport facilities in the coming weeks, aligning with the chief minister's vision of turning Sikkim's hidden valleys into globally recognised destinations.
