The Sikkim-based SIBLAC has renewed its call for Mt. Khangchendzonga to be officially recognised as a National Sacred Heritage Site.

SIBLAC, a civil society platform operating in Sikkim, has reiterated its demand that the iconic Mt. Khangchendzonga be declared a National Sacred Heritage Site. The organization argues that the mountain holds deep spiritual significance for local communities and is a symbol of the region's cultural identity.

The group submitted a formal request to the central government, citing the need for legal protection and recognition of the mountain's religious heritage. SIBLAC officials said that such a designation would help preserve traditional practices linked to the peak and promote responsible tourism.

While the Ministry of Culture has not yet responded, the appeal adds pressure on policymakers to consider heritage legislation that reflects the sentiments of Sikkim's residents. The move comes amid broader discussions on safeguarding India's natural and cultural landmarks.
