The state weather department has placed an orange alert for heavy rainfall across ten districts of Kerala, urging residents to stay prepared.
The Kerala State Meteorological Department issued an orange alert today, signalling the likelihood of heavy rain across ten districts of the state. The warning is the second-highest level in the state’s weather alert system and reflects the potential for substantial rainfall in a short period.
Authorities have warned that the expected downpours could trigger localized flooding and landslides, especially in low‑lying and hilly areas. District administrations have been instructed to activate emergency response teams and keep relief resources on standby.
Residents in the affected districts are advised to avoid non‑essential travel, secure outdoor items, and follow any instructions issued by local officials. Schools and some public services may operate on reduced schedules or be temporarily closed, depending on the severity of conditions.
The meteorological department will continue to monitor the situation throughout the day and may upgrade the alert if rainfall intensifies further.
