Police in Shahdol's Budhar locality detained Kanisk Singh, alias Chotu, accused of luring a young woman with a fake marriage proposal, assaulting her and blackmailing with obscene videos.
Shahdol police arrested a 30‑year‑old man identified as Kanisk Singh, also known as Chotu, after a complaint was lodged by a young woman from the Budhar area. Investigators say the suspect approached the victim under the pretense of arranging a marriage, subsequently subjecting her to physical abuse and recording the act.
The recorded footage was later used by the accused to extort the victim, threatening to circulate the material unless she complied with his demands. The police seized a mobile device containing the videos and other incriminating evidence during the raid.
Authorities have charged the accused under sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act pertaining to sexual assault and blackmail. The case is being forwarded to the district court for trial, and the victim has been offered counseling and legal assistance.
The Shahdol Superintendent of Police emphasized that such crimes will be pursued vigorously and urged the public to report any similar incidents promptly.
