Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia called on the Centre for Development of Telematics to take charge of India's 6G research and promote indigenous telecom solutions abroad.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia addressed a gathering of telecom officials, urging the Centre for Development of Telematics (C‑DOT) to become the lead agency for India's upcoming 6G technology roadmap. He highlighted the strategic importance of developing a home‑grown 6G ecosystem that can compete globally and reduce dependence on foreign vendors.

Scindia emphasized that India's telecom sector must transition from 5G deployment to a forward‑looking 6G framework, leveraging the country's strong engineering talent and existing research infrastructure. He suggested that C‑DOT collaborate with academic institutions, start‑ups, and industry players to accelerate prototype development and standardisation.

The minister also called for a concerted effort to commercialise indigenous telecom hardware and software, aiming to position India as an exporter of next‑generation communication solutions. He assured that the government would provide policy support and funding to facilitate this ambition.

C‑DOT officials responded positively, noting ongoing projects in millimetre‑wave communications and AI‑driven network management that could form the backbone of a 6G rollout. They pledged to draft a detailed action plan and present it to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Stakeholders across the telecom ecosystem are watching closely, as the push for 6G could reshape India's position in the global technology arena and create new opportunities for domestic manufacturers.
