Several state education departments are expected to declare a holiday on October 29 as Karwa Chauth falls on that day in Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan.
The Hindu calendar marks Karwa Chauth on October 29 this year, prompting many schools in northern India to consider a holiday. Education authorities in Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan have been consulted, and preliminary notices suggest that regular classes may be suspended for the day.
Parents across the three regions have been advised to check official circulars from their respective school boards. While some private institutions may continue operations, most government‑run schools are expected to follow the holiday directive.
The move aligns with past practice where major religious festivals often lead to a temporary shutdown of educational institutions, allowing students and staff to observe the occasion with their families.
If confirmed, the holiday will give students a day off before the academic calendar resumes on October 30, with no impact on the scheduled examinations or term assessments.
Authorities will release a final notice by the end of the day, and schools are urged to communicate the decision promptly to avoid confusion among parents and students.
