The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert as Cyclone Arnab moves inland, bringing heavy rain to Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, raising fears of flooding and travel disruptions.

The India Meteorological Department released an orange‑level alert on Thursday, warning that Cyclone Arnab, after making landfall on the eastern coast, is expected to spread intense rainfall across a swath of northern states. Meteorologists project that the system will affect Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan over the next 48 hours, with rain accumulations of up to 100 mm in some districts.

Officials in the affected states have begun pre‑emptive measures, including the activation of flood‑relief teams and the reinforcement of river embankments. The district administrations have also advised residents to avoid non‑essential travel, especially in low‑lying areas prone to waterlogging.

The IMD cautioned that the heavy downpours could trigger flash floods, landslides in hilly zones and disruption to power supply. Schools and government offices in the most vulnerable districts have been instructed to remain on standby for possible closures, while the public is urged to stay updated through official bulletins.

Air and rail services are likely to experience delays, with the Ministry of Civil Aviation monitoring the situation closely. Emergency response units are on alert, ready to deploy rescue teams should the situation deteriorate.

Authorities emphasized that the alert will be reviewed continuously, and further advisories will be issued as the cyclone progresses inland.
