The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh has constituted a committee to advocate censorship of content on OTT platforms, demanding a certification process similar to films.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has constituted a dedicated committee to push for censorship of content on Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming platforms. The move signals a renewed demand for stricter oversight of digital entertainment in India.

The panel is expected to advocate a certification mechanism for OTT content similar to the one followed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for theatrical films. The demand comes amid ongoing debates over the regulation of digital content and concerns over inappropriate material being accessible to viewers without prior scrutiny.

At present, OTT platforms in India operate under the Information Technology Rules, 2021, which require self-regulation by publishers through grievance redressal mechanisms and adherence to a code of ethics. The RSS panel's push could intensify the discussion around shifting from self-regulation to formal certification.
