The Himachal Pradesh tourism authority announced a new regulation for the popular Triund trek, imposing a ₹500 charge per person. Under the rule, every trekker must ensure that all plastic waste generated during the hike is taken back to the base point.
The fee is intended to cover the cost of waste management and to discourage littering on the fragile mountain ecosystem. Officials say the amount will be collected at the entry point and that compliance will be monitored by forest guards stationed along the route.
Environmental groups have welcomed the move, noting that plastic pollution has become a growing concern on Himalayan trails. The department hopes the measure will set a precedent for other trekking destinations across the state.
