The government has approved the Rs 20,000 crore EC‑15 highway, a new corridor that will connect central Indian regions to the western coast and is expected to spur economic activity.

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has green‑lit the EC‑15 highway project, allocating roughly Rs 20,000 crore for its construction. The 1,200‑kilometre corridor will stretch from the central plateau, passing through Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, before reaching the coastal port of Kandla in Gujarat.

Officials say the route is designed to cut travel time between interior industrial hubs and the sea‑line logistics network, thereby lowering freight costs and attracting investment in manufacturing and agribusiness.

The project, slated to begin land acquisition this quarter, will create thousands of jobs during the building phase and is projected to generate additional employment in ancillary sectors once operational.

Environmental clearances have been secured, with the alignment avoiding ecologically sensitive zones wherever possible. The highway is expected to be completed in phases, with the first stretch targeted for opening by 2029.
