Villagers of Lolopar in Seoni district have asked the district collector to rename their village, citing embarrassment caused by its current name and suggesting Gangapur, Bhawanipur, Rampur and Lalitpur as alternatives.
The residents of Lolopar, a village in Seoni district of Madhya Pradesh, approached the district collector with a formal request to change the village's name. According to locals, the existing name has become a source of ridicule and social discomfort, especially for women and young girls, prompting them to seek a more dignified identity.
In their petition, the villagers put forward four alternative names – Gangapur, Bhawanipur, Rampur and Lalitpur – each intended to reflect cultural or historical relevance while eliminating the perceived stigma. The proposals were compiled after community consultations and reflect a consensus among the majority of the population.
The collector's office has acknowledged the request and indicated that the matter will be examined in accordance with state guidelines on place‑name changes.
