Renewable sources accounted for one-fifth of India's electricity generation in July, according to official data, underscoring the country's shift toward greener power.

Renewable energy sources, including solar, wind and hydro, contributed 20 percent of the total electricity generated across India in July, the latest figures released by the Ministry of Power show. The share marks a noticeable rise in the country's green power mix, reflecting ongoing efforts to meet renewable capacity targets set under the National Solar Mission and other climate initiatives. Analysts note that the increase comes as new solar farms come online and existing wind projects expand output, helping to offset a modest dip in coal‑based generation during the same period. The government has pledged to achieve 450 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030, and the July data suggests the trajectory is on track. Continued investment and policy support are expected to further lift the renewable share in the months ahead.
