The Reserve Bank of India has officially confirmed that banknotes from the Mahatma Gandhi series issued before 2005 will continue to be legal tender.

Contrary to circulating rumors, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has issued a clarification regarding the validity of pre-2005 Mahatma Gandhi series banknotes. The central bank has stated that these older notes will continue to be accepted as legal tender.

This announcement aims to dispel any misinformation that might cause confusion among the public. The RBI has previously undertaken similar initiatives to withdraw older series of notes, but in this instance, no such discontinuation is planned.

Therefore, citizens holding banknotes printed before 2005 do not need to worry about their validity. The RBI has assured that these notes remain a valid form of currency in circulation.
