Rajasthan mandates doctors to self‑verify prescriptions under RGHS rules

The Rajasthan Government Health Services (RGHS) has introduced stricter prescription guidelines, obligating physicians to personally verify and sign every prescription they issue. Under the new directive, a doctor's own signature is the only one considered valid for a prescription.

Administrative staff may assist doctors in preparing the prescription draft, but they are prohibited from signing it. The final clinical decision, including diagnosis, medication choice and treatment plan, remains the sole responsibility of the prescribing doctor.

Any instance where a prescription is signed by someone other than the attending physician will trigger disciplinary action as per RGHS regulations. The measure aims to enhance accountability, curb prescription misuse and ensure patient safety across Rajasthan's public health facilities.

Healthcare providers are being briefed on the implementation process, and hospitals are updating their internal workflows to comply with the new requirement.
