The Rajasthan High Court affirmed the state agriculture department’s decision to cancel No‑Objection Certificates for about 42 private agricultural colleges, rejecting petitions from seven major institutions.

Jaipur, Oct 29 — Justice Nupur Bhati of the Rajasthan High Court upheld the agriculture department’s order to withdraw No‑Objection Certificates (NOCs) for roughly 42 private agricultural colleges across the state. The bench dismissed petitions filed by seven leading private agri‑colleges that sought to overturn the cancellation.

The court’s ruling means that the colleges will not be able to admit fresh students for the current academic session, affecting an estimated 2,520 seats that were slated for new enrolments. Prospective candidates will have to seek admission in other recognised institutions or await a possible policy revision.

The agriculture department had earlier argued that many of the private colleges failed to meet statutory requirements, prompting the revocation of their NOCs to protect students’ interests and maintain educational standards. The High Court’s decision reinforces that stance, emphasizing compliance with regulatory norms.

While the affected colleges expressed disappointment, they did not present new evidence to challenge the department’s assessment. The ruling is expected to prompt a review of compliance procedures among private institutions seeking to offer agricultural programmes in Rajasthan.
