The Rajasthan High Court intervened after a NEET candidate’s admission was jeopardized by a mismatch in her father's surname, ordering that the discrepancy be rectified without penalising the student.

A NEET aspirant from Rajasthan faced a potential disqualification when the name of her father, as entered in the examination application, did not match the spelling on official documents. The discrepancy surfaced during the verification process, prompting the student to approach the Rajasthan High Court for relief.

The bench, after hearing the petition, directed the authorities to accept the applicant’s original details and to correct the surname mismatch without cancelling her eligibility for the exam. The court emphasized that procedural errors should not deprive a merit‑based candidate of her right to appear for NEET.

The decision sets a precedent for similar cases where minor clerical errors could otherwise impede a student’s medical entrance prospects. The student is now cleared to sit for the upcoming NEET examination, and the education department has been instructed to update its records accordingly.
