Punjab Records 2,347 Farm Fires, Heightening Delhi Air Quality Concerns

Punjab has recorded 2,347 farm fires this year, a figure that has alarmed environmental officials. The fires, primarily in the state's wheat and mustard fields, release large amounts of smoke and particulate matter. Delhi‑NCR authorities warn that the smoke could travel over 200 kilometres, aggravating already high pollution levels. The Punjab government has urged farmers to adopt safer burning practices and is coordinating with the central government to monitor air quality.
