The Punjab government has launched SANGAT mental health clubs in 40 colleges to strengthen student well‑being and curb drug abuse.

The Punjab government announced the launch of SANGAT mental health clubs across 40 higher‑education institutions, aiming to strengthen student well‑being and curb drug misuse. The initiative, part of the state's broader youth welfare programme, will set up clubs that conduct counseling sessions, peer‑support groups, awareness workshops and collaborate with mental‑health professionals. Officials said the clubs will be overseen by college administrations and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, with regular monitoring and reporting. The move follows rising concerns over substance abuse among young adults in the state. The first batch of clubs is expected to become operational by the end of the month, with plans to expand to more institutions in the next academic year.
