Protest If Venkatesh Galag’s Transfer Is Not Cancelled: Vishwanath Ballidav

Devadurga, October. 8: The transfer of Venkatesh Galag, Executive Engineer (EE) of the Public Works Department (PWD), is politically motivated and against the rules. If the transfer order is not cancelled immediately, a district-wide protest will be launched, said Vishwanath Ballidav, convener of the Progressive Organisations’ Federation.
Speaking to reporters at the Press Bhavan in Devadurga on Thursday, he said that the Model Code of Conduct is currently in force due to the Graduates’ Constituency election. Venkatesh Galag has not completed his tenure, yet he has been transferred due to a conspiracy and the alleged involvement of influential persons.
Venkatesh Galag has been serving the public in a people-friendly, honest and humane manner. He has supported many small contractors and has earned appreciation for his willingness to interact with ordinary people and help them to the best of his ability. Ballidav alleged that the transfer was the result of those who could not tolerate Galag’s popularity.
Venkatesh Galag has never publicly stated that he would contest the 2028 Devadurga Assembly election. However, demands from the people for him to contest have been heard, which itself is a sign of his popularity. In a democratic country, everyone has the right to contest elections, and the person who receives the support of the voters will be elected.
“Those who conspired may have succeeded in removing Venkatesh Galag from his position, but they should understand that it is impossible to remove him from the hearts of the people,”Vishwanath Ballidav said.
He further alleged that several officials against whom complaints have been made have been stationed at the Raichur Zilla Panchayat for many years. Some of them have also come from other departments, but no action has been taken to send them back to their parent departments. Complaints have already been filed against such officials as well, he said.
However, there are no allegations against Venkatesh Galag, Ballidav claimed. He has been serving in the district as an honest officer for the past 15 years and has faced no controversy. There is no indication of malpractice or corruption against him, he said.
He alleged that the sudden and rule-violating transfer of Galag and the handing over of the charge of the post to an allegedly ineligible person clearly indicate a conspiracy.
“The transfer order of Venkatesh Galag should be cancelled immediately and he should be allowed to continue serving in his original position. Otherwise, a district-wide protest will be organised,” said Vishwanath Ballidav, convener of the organisation.
Mahashaya Nayak, president of the Taluk Committee of Maharshi Valmiki Maha Sabha; former municipal president Rangappa Gosal; and organisation office-bearers Babu Gaurampet, Gundappa Nayak and Babu Kawas were present on the occasion.
