Police Register Case After Family Picnic Blocks Traffic on Chittorgarh Highway

Rajasthan police have opened an investigation after a video surfaced showing a family eating a picnic meal on the left‑hand side of a highway rest area near Chittorgarh. The footage, posted on social media, captured the group seated on the carriageway, causing vehicles to slow down and creating a brief traffic bottleneck.
Authorities said that any activity on the carriageway poses a safety risk to motorists and pedestrians, and therefore constitutes a violation of traffic regulations. The police filed a case under the relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, citing obstruction of traffic and endangering public safety.
The family involved claimed they had stopped for only about fifteen minutes to eat and were unaware that their presence would disrupt traffic flow. Police officials, however, emphasized that the highway must remain clear at all times, especially in high‑traffic zones, and warned that similar incidents could attract stricter penalties in the future.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about public awareness of road safety rules in Rajasthan’s rapidly expanding highway network. Enforcement agencies continue to monitor such violations to ensure smooth movement of traffic and prevent accidents.
