Police, Forest Dept. seize 100 trolleys of illegal Chambal sand in Muraina, MP

A joint operation by Ambah police and the forest department in Muraina, Madhya Pradesh, recovered about 100 trolleys of sand illegally dumped from the Chambal River.
Ambah police, together with the forest department, conducted a raid across the entire Harichand area of Muraina on Thursday. The operation targeted illegal sand dumping activities linked to the Chambal River. Investigators uncovered roughly 100 trolleys loaded with sand that had been dumped without permission.
Officials said the seized sand was being moved for commercial resale, violating environmental regulations and state mining laws. The joint team documented the haul, secured the material, and began a forensic examination to trace the source and the parties involved.
The raid forms part of a broader crackdown on sand mafias that have been depleting riverbeds across Madhya Pradesh. Authorities have pledged to continue monitoring illegal extraction sites and to prosecute those responsible under the state's forest and mining statutes.
Local residents expressed relief, noting that unchecked sand mining had previously caused riverbank erosion and threatened aquatic ecosystems. The police and forest officials have urged the public to report any suspicious sand extraction activities.
Further investigation is underway to identify the contractors or traders who supplied the sand and to determine whether any political or corporate interests were implicated.
