Authorities in Mohali ordered the removal of shopkeepers from a farmers’ market after a pile of garbage ignited, creating hazardous conditions.

Mohali police intervened at a local farmers' market on Thursday after a heap of accumulated waste caught fire, producing thick smoke and posing a safety risk to visitors. The blaze, which started in a nearby garbage dump, forced officials to clear the area and ask shopkeepers to vacate their stalls until the fire was contained.
The market, a regular venue for local producers to sell fresh produce, was temporarily shut down as fire‑fighters worked to extinguish the flames. Police officers coordinated with municipal workers to remove the vendors and prevent any further escalation.
Officials said the incident highlighted the need for better waste management around public markets. They assured the public that the market would reopen once the site is cleared and safety checks are completed.
No injuries were reported, and the fire was brought under control within a few hours. The police department urged citizens to report any illegal dumping that could lead to similar hazards in the future.
