The government has unveiled the PM RAHAT scheme, offering cashless medical treatment worth up to ₹1.5 lakh for individuals injured in road accidents.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways today announced the launch of the PM RAHAT (Road Accident Health Assistance and Treatment) scheme, a new initiative aimed at providing cashless medical care to victims of road accidents across India.

Under the scheme, eligible patients can receive treatment worth up to ₹1.5 lakh without having to pay upfront. The coverage includes hospitalization, surgery, diagnostic tests and post‑operative care.

The scheme will be implemented through a network of public and private hospitals that have signed up with the government. Patients will need to register through the scheme’s online portal or at designated help desks.

Health officials say the programme is expected to reduce the financial burden on families and improve access to timely care for accident victims.
