A patient at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa was mistakenly declared dead, prompting relatives to arrange a corpse vehicle, before the patient unexpectedly regained consciousness.

Rewa’s Sanjay Gandhi Hospital reported a startling incident where a patient undergoing treatment was declared dead by medical staff. The declaration led the patient’s relatives to initiate standard procedures for transporting a deceased body, including booking a dedicated corpse vehicle.

According to reports, the family, believing the declaration to be final, arranged for the vehicle to take the body home. However, moments after the booking, the patient showed signs of life and began breathing on his own, overturning the earlier pronouncement.

Hospital officials were taken aback by the sudden reversal. Staff members quickly attended to the patient, confirming that he was alive and stabilising his condition. The episode has raised questions about the verification process used before issuing a death certificate in the facility.

The administration has announced an internal review to ascertain how the error occurred and to prevent similar mishaps in the future. No further details on the patient’s health status have been released pending family consent.
