More than two lakh aspiring athletes have signed up for Khel Maharan 3.0, the state’s expanded grassroots talent hunt aimed at discovering sporting talent across Assam.
The Assam government has opened registration for the third edition of Khel Maharan, its flagship grassroots talent hunt, and over 200,000 young athletes have already enrolled. The response reflects strong interest among school‑age and college‑age participants eager to showcase their abilities in a variety of sports disciplines.
Khel Maharan 3.0 is designed to identify promising talent from remote districts and provide them with systematic training, coaching and exposure to higher‑level competitions. The initiative is being coordinated by the state’s sports department in partnership with local schools and sports clubs.
Officials said the expanded outreach, which includes digital registration portals and outreach camps, aims to broaden the talent pool beyond traditional urban centers. Selected athletes will receive scholarships, access to state‑run training facilities and mentorship from national‑level coaches.
The program aligns with Assam’s broader objective of strengthening its representation in national and international sporting events, building on the successes of previous editions that produced several state‑level champions.
