More than 2,000 sheep and goats are feared buried under heavy snowfall at Rupin Pass in Himachal Pradesh.
Heavy snowfall at Rupin Pass in Himachal Pradesh has left more than 2,000 sheep and goats stranded and feared buried beneath the snow.
The pass, which lies at an altitude of about 3,500 meters, received a sudden blizzard that covered the grazing grounds with several feet of snow, making it difficult for shepherds to reach their flocks.
Local authorities and the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department have mobilised rescue teams equipped with snow‑mobiles and sleds to locate and free the animals. The teams are also coordinating with veterinary services to provide emergency care.
Farmers in the surrounding valleys are concerned about the loss of livestock, which could impact their livelihoods and the local economy.
As of now, rescue operations are ongoing, and officials are monitoring the situation closely to prevent further casualties.
