A recent National Sample Office survey found that just one in four households in Meghalaya reported making a same‑day trip.

The National Sample Office (NSO) released data indicating that only 25 per cent of households in Meghalaya recorded a same‑day trip during the survey period. The survey, which sampled households across the state, defines a same‑day trip as travel that begins and ends on the same calendar day.

Analysts note that the low proportion may point to limited intra‑state mobility, constrained transport infrastructure, or economic factors that discourage short‑duration travel. Compared with national trends, where a higher share of households undertake same‑day trips, Meghalaya's figure suggests a distinct travel pattern.

The NSO data could inform state planners as they evaluate transport and tourism policies, aiming to improve connectivity and encourage local travel. Further detailed findings are expected to be released in the full survey report.
