Former J&K leaders Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti said Delhi now mirrors Kashmir after the revocation of Article 370.

New Delhi – In a recent statement, former Jammu and Kashmir chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti observed that the capital city now resembles the situation in Kashmir following the government's decision to abrogate Article 370. Both leaders highlighted that the removal of the special status accorded to the state has led to a shift in Delhi's political and social climate, drawing parallels with the changes witnessed in the former state.

Abdullah, who heads the National Conference, pointed out that the central government's approach in Delhi mirrors the administrative and security measures imposed in Kashmir after the constitutional amendment. He warned that such a trajectory could affect the democratic fabric of the capital.

Mehbooba Mufti, leader of the People’s Democratic Party, echoed similar concerns, noting that the atmosphere of heightened surveillance and restricted dissent in Delhi is reminiscent of the post‑abrogation scenario in the north‑eastern region. The remarks come amid ongoing debates about civil liberties and federalism in India.

Both politicians called for a reassessment of policies that they say could erode fundamental rights, urging the government to engage in dialogue with opposition voices to restore confidence among citizens.
