A group of Mumbai municipal councillors has publicly opposed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s plan to outsource hospitals under a public‑private partnership, calling for the tender to be withdrawn.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has moved to place several of its hospitals under a public‑private partnership (PPP) model, issuing a tender to attract private operators.
A faction of elected councillors from the city has taken a stand against the proposal, stating that the tender should be cancelled. The councillors argue that the move could compromise the public health mandate of the hospitals.
The councilors submitted a formal demand to the BMC leadership, urging the municipal body to withdraw the tender and reconsider the PPP approach. As of now, the corporation has not issued a response, and the tender remains pending.
