Officials Lead Flood Cleanup in Chitrakoot, Clearing Ghats and Debris

Following severe flooding in Chitrakoot, Madhya Pradesh, district officials and staff launched a rapid cleanup, focusing on clearing the river ghats and removing accumulated debris.
Heavy rains caused the Chambal River to overflow, inundating low‑lying areas of Chitrakoot district on Monday. The sudden surge damaged homes, disrupted transport and left several ghats along the riverbank submerged.
Within hours of the water receding, the district collectorate mobilised a team of administrative officers, junior staff and local volunteers. Under their supervision, the group began clearing the main ghats, removing sand, mud and floating debris to restore public access and prevent health hazards.
The cleanup operation also involved the removal of broken wooden planks, discarded household items and other waste that had accumulated during the flood. Officials reported that the effort is ongoing and that additional resources, including mechanised equipment, will be deployed if needed.
Local residents expressed relief at the swift response, noting that the restored ghats are essential for daily rituals and for the town’s tourism. The administration has urged citizens to cooperate and avoid littering as the area returns to normalcy.
