The Indian Meteorological Department has issued red, orange and yellow flood alerts for Odisha after a massive low‑pressure system threatens heavy rainfall and potential flooding.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red, orange and yellow flood alerts for the state of Odisha following the arrival of a massive low‑pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. The system is expected to bring heavy rainfall across the coastal districts, raising the risk of flash floods and riverine overflow.

The red alert, the highest level of warning, covers districts such as Cuttack, Puri and Ganjam, where authorities have been advised to prepare emergency response teams and ensure that evacuation routes are clear. The orange and yellow alerts apply to adjoining areas, signalling the possibility of significant rainfall and localized flooding.

State officials have urged residents to stay updated through local radio and television broadcasts, and to avoid traveling on low‑lying roads. The Odisha Disaster Management Authority has activated its rapid response plan and is coordinating with the Indian Army and the National Disaster Response Force for potential relief operations.
