The Odisha government launched a commercial layer farming scheme on World Egg Day, aiming to boost egg production and support farmers with subsidies and technical assistance.
Bhubaneswar, Odisha – On May 7, 2026, the state government announced a new Commercial Layer Farming Scheme, aligning the launch with the global observance of World Egg Day. The initiative is designed to encourage small and marginal farmers to shift to commercial egg‑laying operations by offering financial incentives, low‑interest credit and access to modern poultry infrastructure.
The scheme outlines a package of subsidies for constructing layer houses, procurement of high‑yielding layer breeds, and provision of feed and veterinary services. State officials also said training modules will be rolled out through agricultural extension officers to ensure best‑practice management and disease control.
By promoting organized layer farming, Odisha aims to increase domestic egg supply, create rural employment and reduce dependence on imports. The government plans to monitor progress through a dedicated portal that will track beneficiary enrollment and production metrics.
The launch was timed with World Egg Day, a worldwide event that highlights the nutritional and economic importance of eggs. Odisha hopes the visibility will attract further investment and encourage other states to adopt similar models.
