Odisha Supply Minister Angrily Criticises FCI Rice Procurement

Odisha's supply minister publicly expressed strong displeasure with the Food Corporation of India's (FCI) rice procurement activities in the state. In a press briefing, the minister highlighted perceived irregularities and delays that he said were affecting farmers and the state's food security. He urged the central agency to address the issues promptly and ensure transparent, timely procurement.

The minister's remarks came after reports surfaced of lower-than-expected procurement volumes and delayed payments to farmers. He warned that continued lapses could undermine confidence in the public distribution system and called for a joint review with FCI officials.

State officials have been asked to coordinate with the central ministry to resolve the concerns and streamline the procurement mechanism ahead of the upcoming Rabi season.
