The Odisha cabinet has approved a ₹8,300 crore coastal highway project linking Rameshwar and Paradeep, aiming to boost connectivity and economic activity in the eastern state.

The Odisha cabinet has sanctioned a ₹8,300 crore coastal highway that will connect the towns of Rameshwar and Paradeep along the eastern coastline. The project is expected to cut travel time between the two ports and facilitate smoother movement of goods and passengers.

The highway, which will span approximately 120 kilometres, is part of the state’s broader plan to modernise transport infrastructure and attract investment to the coastal belt. Officials say the route will include multiple bridges and bypasses to minimise congestion.

The approval follows a feasibility study conducted by the state’s Department of Road Transport and Highways. Funding will be sourced from a mix of central government allocations and state budgetary provisions. The project is slated to begin construction in the next fiscal year, with completion targeted by 2027.

Local businesses and port authorities have welcomed the development, citing potential boosts in trade and tourism. The government has assured that environmental safeguards will be integrated into the construction plan.
