Student wing NSUI staged a protest at Barkatullah University’s guest house in Bhopal, alleging police prevented young people from travelling to Delhi, leading to a scuffle with law‑enforcement officers.
Bhopal – Members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) gathered outside the guest house of Barkatullah University on Thursday to object to police actions that they say barred several youths from boarding a bus to Delhi. The protesters held placards and chanted slogans demanding that the authorities allow the students to travel without interference.
According to eyewitnesses, police personnel attempted to disperse the crowd, resulting in a brief physical confrontation. Several NSUI activists reported being pushed and restrained, while police claimed they were maintaining law and order.
No arrests were reported, and the protest ended after a few hours when senior university officials intervened and requested both sides to calm down. The incident highlights growing tensions between student political groups and law‑enforcement agencies in the state.
The NSUI has announced plans to file a formal complaint against the police for alleged harassment, while the district police said they would review the incident and take appropriate action if any misconduct is proven.
The demonstration did not affect academic activities at the university, and classes resumed as scheduled later in the day.
