The Statesman published an editorial urging the creation of a new peace compact for India's North‑East, citing persistent insurgency and development challenges.
The Statesman, a prominent national newspaper, recently ran an editorial titled "The North‑East Needs a New Peace Compact" that calls for a fresh agreement to address the region's security and development issues.
The editorial stresses that the North‑East remains a flashpoint for insurgent activity and stalled progress, and that without a new compact the cycle of conflict is likely to persist.
It urges policymakers, insurgent groups and civil society to engage in renewed dialogue aimed at crafting a comprehensive peace framework that balances security, autonomy and economic growth.
